Margie graduated from Ritzville High School in 1967.  She attended Yakima Valley College.  After that she got married and moved to San Diego and went to San Diego City College and then to San Diego State with a major in Sociology.  In 1974 Margie moved back home to Ritzville and as a single mom and received a scholarship to Big Bend College and received a nursing degree.  In 1976 she moved to Spokane where she worked in community mental health.  In 1979 she reconnected with a RHS classmate, Hugh Gannon, and they were married and she moved to St. Maries, Idaho.  She continued working in nursing until she was hired by Idaho State to work for Family and Children’s Services.  She attended finish up classes at the University of Idaho.  She retired from that position.

Margie spend 16 years on the St. Maries school board.  Fourteen of those years as chairman.  During that time, she was on the Idaho State School Board Executive Board and the Idaho High School Athletics Association.  She was able to attend the National School Board Conference in San Francisco and Chicago.  She remains on the Governor’s Education Task Force.  In 2016 she was elected to the St. Maries City Council where she serves on the Waste Water and Emergency Personnel Committee.

She serves on the Hospice Board, The Community Action Partnership for North Idaho and Volunteer Clinic in Benewah County.  Margie and Hugh were foster parents for many years and won Foster Parents of the Year in 2001. Many of the children who lived with them still keep in touch and stop by.  Margie is an Elder in the Presbyterian Church and serves as lay pastor at times.  Their family is involved in giving out a scholarship in St. Maries for graduates attending the University of Idaho.  She is a 4-H judge at their county fair and works with young people on the Ambassador program and government program as well as horse clinic.

While retired, she continues to work some at the volunteer free clinic, doing reading groups at the library and substitute teaching.  She also volunteers at St. Anne’s in Spokane where her youngest grandson attends and also she continues her work with the City Council.

Margie and Hugh have three children, Dustin, Brent and Annie.  They have seven grandchildren and one great grandchild.  They spend much of their time attending athletic events and other events and programs their grandchildren are involved in.  They are truly blessed by this.

Margie’s sister Barbara also graduated from Ritzville High School in 1972.
